November Record

A sequence of Images from my 2023 project titled, November Record. A personalised response to various photographic archives curated by the ‘Craigmillar Now’ volunteer group, this series is a depiction of the neighbourhood from my perspective as an outsider. As a frequent, yet brief visitor, I come to this seemingly run-down outskirt of the city as a means of self-improvement, attending regular training sessions at a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym in the area. I documented my journey through this dark, sleepy environment as a representation of my mental clarity before and after a long session. I find physical activity involving an element combat to be an effective form of therapy, and drew a parallel between this and the harsh aesthetic of the often unsettling, dilapidated urban environment I pass through to reach this personal sanctuary.
